AKSHARDHAM TEMPLE
“Where Art is ageless, Culture is borderless, Values are timeless”

Akshardham Temple is the divine courtyard of God with the power of devotion, purity and peace reverberating through the corridors of the abode of Swaminarayan. It is a 100-acre cultural complex which was inaugurated on the 6th of November, 2005. From then onwards, it has become a torchbearer of Indian art, heritage, traditions, wisdom and spirituality.

While it is a spiritually elevating experience, the tinge of ancient artistic architecture is prevalent in the beautifully carved temple made of pink stones and white marbles. Akshardham monument is 141 feet high with nine grand domes and 234 sculpted pillars. With the assimilation of unrestrained efforts, devotion and handwork of volunteers and talented artists, it took only five years to lay the foundation of the cultural and spiritual complex. On 17th December in 2007, an adjudicator of Guinness Book of World record presented Swami Pramukh Maharaj, who initiated the idea of Akshardham temple, a certificate of "the largest comprehensive Hindu temple" in the Indian subcontinent.

With over 300,000 stones carved artistically and purposefully, today the complex has become a hallmark of India’s ancient heritage. Additionally, the blend of modernism in the form of musical fountains called Yagnapurush Kund illustrates the universality that is coexistent in Hinduism and its teachings and gives a glimpse into the diversity of Indian culture.

In the twelve-minute Boat ride to “Sanskruti Vihar” visitors are taken back to the ancient times where the magnificence of Indian heritage is revealed. Sailing through the Takshashila, visitors gain knowledge about the marvellous discoveries that were made in India by the rishis and munis.
Not only this, but around the verdant gardens encompassing the main Akshardham building, lie bronze statues of national leaders, courageous freedom fighters, the ‘Surya Rath’ and ‘Chandra Rath’ and the valiant women of India. This cultural garden depicts the glorious history of our nation.
